Supporting Creators

You can support posts you value with Creator Support, a one-time payment that goes directly to the creator. It is a simple way to say this mattered to me.

Where to Find the Support Button

The Support button appears on posts from creators who have enabled payments:

  • On Post Cards: Look for the "Support" button with the coffee icon ☕ near favorite, comment, and share actions
  • On Post Detail Pages: The Support button appears in the same location when viewing a full post
  • Not on All Posts: The button only appears if the creator has connected their Stripe account to accept payments
  • Currently Requires Account: You need to be signed in to use the Support button right now

Coming Soon: We are working on Creator Support for visitors who are not signed in.

How to Support a Creator

Supporting a creator is quick:

  1. Find a post you want to support
  2. Click the "Support" button (with the coffee icon ☕)
  3. A support modal will open where you can:
    • Choose an amount ($1, $5, $10, $25, $50, or enter a custom amount)
    • Optionally add a message to the creator
    • Choose whether your message should be public or private
  4. Enter your payment information
  5. Click "Send Support" to complete the payment

What Happens When You Support

When you send Creator Support:

  • Creator Receives Payment: The creator gets your support payment, minus platform and processing fees, through Stripe
  • Support Count Updates: The post will show a support count (e.g., "☕ 5 supports") - this is visible to everyone
  • Your Message: If you chose to make your message public, it will appear as a support comment on the post
  • Privacy: The amount you sent is private. Only the creator can see individual support amounts
  • Confirmation: You'll receive a confirmation that your support was sent successfully

Support Amounts

You can choose from preset amounts or enter a custom amount:

  • Preset Amounts: $1, $5, $10, $25, or $50
  • Custom Amount: Enter any amount you'd like (minimum $1)
  • No Maximum: You can send any amount to show your appreciation

Support Messages

When sending support, you can optionally include a message:

  • Private Messages: Only the creator will see your message (default)
  • Public Messages: Your message will appear as a support comment on the post, visible to others
  • Message Length: Messages can be up to 500 characters
  • Optional: You don't have to include a message if you prefer to support anonymously

Privacy and Visibility

Creator Support respects your privacy:

  • Support Count: Everyone can see how many people have supported a post (e.g., "☕ 5 supports")
  • Amounts Private: The amount you send is never shown publicly. Only the creator can see individual support amounts
  • Supporter Names: Only the creator can see who sent support and how much
  • Public Messages: If you choose to make your message public, it will appear as a support comment visible to everyone
  • Your Own Support: You can see your own support contributions on posts you've supported

Who Can Receive Support?

Not all creators can receive support:

  • Stripe Account Required: Creators must have connected their Stripe account to accept support
  • Verified Accounts: The creator's Stripe account must be verified and active
  • Support Button: You'll only see the Support button on posts from creators who can accept support
  • No Support Button: If you don't see a Support button, that creator hasn't set up payment acceptance yet

Support vs. Subscriptions

Creator Support is different from paid subscriptions:

  • One-Time vs. Recurring: Support is a one-time payment, subscriptions are recurring
  • Content-Specific: Support is tied to a specific post or piece of content
  • No Exclusive Access: Support doesn't give you access to paid-subscriber-only content
  • Both Available: You can both subscribe to a creator AND send them support on individual posts
  • Different Purposes: Subscriptions provide ongoing support and access, Creator Support is for appreciating specific content

Tip: Creator Support helps creators keep making thoughtful work. If a post teaches you something, moves you, or stays with you, this is the most direct way to back it.
